Antaney Hogan Clayton County Deputy Turned Fugitive Caught After 9 Months On The Run

Comments Off on Antaney Hogan Clayton County Deputy Turned Fugitive Caught After 9 Months On The Run

A man who ran to be the top lawman of one of Georgia’s largest counties spent nine months making sure nobody could find him. This week, that ran out on Florida soil.

Antaney Hogan — then a Clayton County sheriff’s deputy who went on to serve as a South Fulton police officer and run for Cobb County sheriff in 2024 — was taken into custody Tuesday, Aug. 11, by Jacksonville police, closing a multistate search that multiple agencies had been working since the warrants went out. He is held on a larceny warrant out of Jasper County in a case the warrant ties to a truck that belonged to his ex-fiancée: her father bought it, she was the registered owner, and investigators allege Hogan sold it anyway.

Four warrants, four alleged losses

The warrant stack reads like a tour of his old stomping grounds.

In Fulton County, investigators allege Hogan borrowed $20,000 from a co-worker at the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office to buy an investment building in Rockdale County — a building that did not exist. The loan handoff was recorded on video at her Atlanta residence. He repaid $5,000, then stopped. The woman, Janelle Thompson, told FOX 5 she trusted him because of the badge: “My trust is way gone. Out the window.” Her accusations didn’t stop at the loan — she also says he used her credit cards, sold her vehicles, and stopped paying shared bills, including the mortgage, the car note and childcare.

In Atlanta, a man says Hogan showed up in full uniform and sold him a car for nearly $9,000 in cash, leaning on a story about his late brother’s estate and a title that was on the way. It never came. The buyer, Jay Tenenbaum, sent 28 texts across a year of excuses — one of which was that Hogan was in Kabul.

A third warrant alleges Hogan took $7,600 from another person for his children’s medical costs — costs investigators say never existed. The fourth is the Jasper County larceny warrant that finally caught up with him.

The department that moved fastest

Hogan’s campaign bio read like a veteran lawman’s: Smyrna police, the GBI Gang Task Force, a tour in Afghanistan with the Army National Guard. He finished third in the 2024 Republican primary for Cobb County sheriff.

His own department saw a different side. South Fulton Police fired Hogan in 2024 — less than two weeks after the department received a complaint about a possible vehicle scam.

“They have to find me to serve me”

For months, the system couldn’t close the loop. One Atlanta warrant was actually recalled because officers couldn’t serve it — the address they held for Hogan was wrong. When Tenenbaum threatened to sue, Hogan’s answer became the epigram of the whole case: “They have to find me to serve me.”

For nine months, nobody could. Then Jacksonville officers did.

Tenenbaum, the buyer who spent a year chasing that car title, had a blunt review after the arrest: “This guy needs to go away for a long time.”

What happens next

Authorities have not said when Hogan will be extradited to Georgia, or how the three outstanding warrants will be handled once he is back in state. Every warrant is an allegation right now, and Hogan is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. This post will be updated as the court record develops: extradition timing, first appearance, and any movement on the remaining Fulton and Atlanta cases.

He bet one victim that the system would have to find him before it could touch him. Nine months later, it did — the question is why four warrants took that long to leave Georgia.
