Coffee County Firefighter William Jerry Minix Arrested In Child Case
A south Georgia firefighter is facing one of the most serious charges on the book — and his own county asked the state to make the arrest.
William Jerry Minix II, 43, of Nicholls, served Coffee County as a firefighter. On October 9th, agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation took him into custody. The charge: sexual battery against a victim under the age of 16.
Here’s the part that makes this case different. The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office never investigated it themselves. Back in June, deputies handed the entire case to the GBI — a deliberate move to keep the investigation independent of the local agencies involved. Four months later, state agents made the arrest.
The GBI confirmed Minix was employed as a county firefighter when the alleged offense happened. But the agency was just as clear about what it was not: nothing about this case involves his work on duty.
Minix was booked into the Coffee County Jail — the same county he served. Once the active investigation wraps, the file goes to the Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney for charging decisions.
The story spread fast. Five news outlets carried the arrest and booking photo in a single day, including CBS News Atlanta.
Minix is presumed innocent until a court says otherwise. No bond or court date is public yet, and the county has not said whether he remains on the fire department roster. When this file moves, we’ll track it.
Anyone with information is asked to call Coffee County investigators at 912-384-4227 or the GBI’s Douglas office at 912-389-4103.
