Zachary Klein, 32, was a Lufkin, Texas police officer assigned to day-shift crash investigations. Prosecutors say that for a year and a half, he ran searches on one woman — his ex-girlfriend — through the city’s Flock camera network. More than ten thousand times. From his personal phone, at all hours of the day and night.
The searches didn’t stop with her. Her family members. Men she dated. A man Klein had allegedly threatened to find. None of them were part of any case he was working.
It took a single public records request to expose all of it. Now Klein sits in the Angelina County Jail on a $700,000 bond, indicted on more than one hundred counts — and the entire Lufkin Police Department has suspended its use of Flock cameras while every officer’s search history gets audited.
