Joliet Police Lieutenant Jeremy Harrison Charged With Felonies Over Flock Camera Misuse

Comments Off on Joliet Police Lieutenant Jeremy Harrison Charged With Felonies Over Flock Camera Misuse

A police lieutenant — command staff, not a rookie — is now facing felonies over what investigators say he did inside the city’s own license-plate camera system.

Jeremy Harrison, 50, of Plainfield, a lieutenant with the Joliet Police Department, was charged October 7 with computer tampering and official misconduct after a Will County grand jury returned indictments. Both charges are felonies.

The paper trail started inside City Hall. In October 2025, Joliet’s city inspector general asked the Illinois State Police to investigate Harrison over an allegation that he was using the city’s Flock camera system for personal benefit. ISP’s criminal division and an Illinois appellate special prosecutor took the case to a grand jury.

Harrison had already been fired by Joliet police in December 2025 — and he is currently appealing that termination. The charges landed while his appeal is still pending.

The state police released no additional details, so the questions that matter stay open: how many searches, whose plates, and over how long. What’s already public is the rank. The pattern in this story keeps climbing the org chart — civilian analysts, patrol officers, detectives, and now a police lieutenant criminally charged over the plate-reader system his own department was running.

Joliet hasn’t said whether more charges or more names are coming. His appeal argues he shouldn’t have been fired. A grand jury just said he should probably stand trial.
