Donald Page, Uvalde Sergeant Tied To Missing Robb Camera Video, Is Now A Real County Deputy

The Real County Sheriff’s Office has hired Donald Page — the Uvalde police sergeant whose name became tied to the missing officer-worn camera video from the 2022 Robb Elementary attack — and the sheriff is not hiding the reasoning. He says he’s willing to give officers a second chance.

Page is one of two new deputies as the department rebuilds what Sheriff Nathan Johnson describes as depleted ranks. According to reporting from the Uvalde Leader News, Page joined the office in September. Regional profiles of the new hires tout deputies with “decades of experience” — without mentioning what Page’s file contains.

Here is what that file, as far as the public record shows, includes: Page spent 18 years with the Uvalde Police Department and responded to Robb Elementary on May 24, 2022. In the years after, the delayed release of officer-worn camera video from that day became one of the biggest transparency fights in Texas law enforcement. Page left the department in 2024, resigning amid a disciplinary investigation connected to footage from Robb that went missing. The outcome of that investigation was never publicly detailed.

Johnson told local outlets that most of the applicants his office receives are “rookies, retirees” — and that he’s willing to give officers a second chance. What is not public: whether Real County reviewed Page’s disciplinary history before pinning the badge on, and whether anyone at the department asked why his Uvalde career ended.

A sergeant connected to the missing Robb Elementary video — the footage families fought years to see — is now a county deputy, and the sell is “experience.” Second chances are one thing. Silent files are another.

What do you think — should departments have to disclose an officer’s disciplinary file before hiring them? Let us know, and follow along as we keep watch on who else gets re-badged. #OhDangReally
