Two corrections officers at Florida’s now-closed “Alligator Alcatraz” detention facility now face battery charges over one handcuffed detainee.
FDLE confirmed to WINK Investigates that officer Andre Seenaraine was arrested in connection with the same January 25 incident that already led to charges against officer Stephen Trejos. Both pleaded not guilty. Both posted $1,000 bond.
A former detainee told WINK more than 100 people were left in handcuffs for hours without food or water before the confrontation. He says Trejos slammed and struck detainee Rigoberto Rodriguez Arce in one room — and Seenaraine continued the confrontation in a second room.
Rodriguez Arce’s own attorney says a Texas facility opened an investigation after he arrived with a black eye and bandages. That inquiry reached Florida investigators.
Trejos is claiming stand-your-ground immunity, saying a single “compliance strike” was “intended to redirect his face” after the detainee allegedly spat. The judge has not ruled.
A grand jury separately found the DeSantis administration “misappropriated” $10 million tied to the facility. No charges were filed over that finding.
